Cover: Glucose uptake in living hippocampal neurons. A fluorescent, nonmetabolized glucose analog {6-[N(7-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazol-4-yl)amino]-6-deoxyglucose (6-NBDG)} was used to trace glucose uptake and transport by living neurons. 6-NBDG (300 μM) was loaded to primary neurons on DIV 6 and was detected immediately after washout. The intracellular accumulation of 6-NBDG (in green) suggests that glucose is directly taken up by primary neurons. From: Wang Y, Guan X. GLP-2 potentiates L-type Ca2+ channel activity associated with stimulated glucose uptake in hippocampal neurons. Am J Physiol Endocrinol Metab 298: E156–E166, 2010.
