Cover: Perivascular fibrosis in the transgenic (mRen2) 27 (Ren2) heart. Light microscopic image at ×40 of structural changes in left ventricle of the placebo-treated Ren2 control, an animal model of chronically elevated tissue of angiotensin II and renin-angiotensis system activation. The image depicts perivascular fibrosis, using VVG (Verhoeff-van Gieson) staining; the Verhoeff component of this two-part stain is specific for elastin fibers, whereas the van Gieson stain is specific for collagen. From Whaley-Connell A, Govindarajan G, Habibi J, Hayden MR, Cooper SA, Wei Y, Ma L, Qazi M, Link D, Karuparthi PR, Stump C, Ferrario C, Sowers JR. Angiotensin II-mediated oxidative stress promotes myocardial tissue remodeling in the transgenic (mRen2) 27 Ren2 rat. Am J Physiol Endocrinol Metab 293: E355-E363, 2007.
