LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Reply to Collazos

TO THE EDITOR: We agree with Dr. Collazos that the spectrum of HIV-associated weight loss has changed dramatically with the widespread use of combination antiretroviral therapy. The field has advanced substantially since our study was designed and conducted (1). The questions raised by Dr. Collazos are valid and interesting, but unfortunately our study does not have the statistical power to perform the subgroup analyses that he proposes. These questions could form the basis for an important additional study. Our group has also recently participated in a related study on testosterone supplementation in HIV-infected men with abdominal obesity and low testosterone, which demonstrated a decrease in fat mass and an increase in lean mass with testosterone supplementation in this group as well (2).
